    • We have just purchased two Kettwiesels so we can tandem them for someone with Locked in syndrome. For the disabled rider we have a Rohloff hub. The problem we have is that when the disabled rider gets to 'top dead centre' on the pedals he does not quite have the ability to push the pedal over to the next stroke so therefore just stops pedaling. Can we lock the gears somehow so he has a fixed gear type system so the rider in front provides the momentum to pust the pedal through? Figure this would only be needed for a little while untill his body works out how to adjust pressure from one leg to another quickly.
    • A fixed gear solution for the Kettwiesel is available from Hase. The problem is, that the Rohloff hub has a 2nd freewheel which you can't block. But maybe you can take out the rohloff if you say it's just needed for a little while and if you drive in tandem.

    • Thanks for your reply, we have a secong Kettwiesel to make up the tandem which has a derailer gear set. Maybe it would be easier to swap riders and fix gear on this? I would guess if we do this it would have to be a single speed? Is the Hase solution similar to this do you know. Many thanks
    • The Hase solution is a singlespeed solution, yes:

      Fixed gear device

The trike is transformed into a fixie, and the gear system is locked into a single gear. Especially sensible for physical

(this information can be found on the Hase webpage of the Kettwiesel custom)

And yes, I think it would be better to keep the Rohloff and exchange the normal gear Kettwiesel for the fixie solution.
