Sometimes even tandemists long for an extra set of legs, especially on uphill stretches… Well, wishes can come true. And the results can be as wonderful as you imagined – at least with the PINO CUSTOM. The Bionx electric-assist motor provides magical power, contributing up to 250 watts of power in the rear wheel, as long as the two riders pedal. The juice comes from the little box in the frame triangle: a lithium-manganese battery with almost 10 Ah of capacity. That’s plenty for daily use. The motor switches off at 25 km/h (15mph) –
which means that, in Germany, the e-PINO is still legally considered a bicycle and doesn’t require moped licensing. An additional Children’s Crankset can be quickly mounted and perfectly adjusted to the leg length of younger riders, who can pedal along – but don’t have to: the Stronglight crank bearing has an integrated freewheel mechanism. And when necessary, the action can be slowed powerfully and precisely, thanks to AVID’s hydraulic disc brakes.
